With new european legislations, Slovenia opened property market to foreign buyers
The buying process is straightforward and local finance options are available and the whole process should take around a month to complete. Slovenian law protects both buyers and sellers. Real estate is mainly governed by the Law of Property Code, the Land Register Act, the Real Estate Recording Act, the Agricultural Land Act, the Housing Act and the Protection of Buyers of Apartments and Single Occupancy Buildings Act. The Constitution of the Republic of Slovenia (Ustava Republike Slovenije) provides that foreign nationals may acquire ownership right to real estate only under conditions provided by law or a treaty ratified by the National Assembly. International agreements that enable foreign nationals (apart from nationals of EU members) to acquire real estate in Slovenia are therefore relevant in this aspect.
Foreign nationals may acquire ownership right to real estate only under conditions provided by law or a treaty ratified by the National Assembly. EU citizens can buy real estate in Slovenia without restrictions. Foreigners can buy real estates only on a reciprocal basis.
