Town Cerknica is situated near the one of the most unusual natural phenomena: intermittent Lake Cerknica below the Slivnica hill (1114m). From there the settlement was supposedly moved to the hill around the church (the present Tabor). Its name containing the root word church allegedly originated there. In the 15th century continuous and cruel Turkish raids began, which caused much damage to this part of Slovenia. It is famous for its history and beautiful interior; it is built in the Late Gothic style and belongs to the group of the hall-like churches. But the intermittent Cerknica Lake is by all means the most famous sight: when full it covers 24 km2. The Financial Administration of the Republic of Slovenia (FURS) has announced stepped up measures for the start of 2018 targeting a surge in undeclared vacation rentals. FURS has decided to put a stop to undeclared leasing of real estate to tourists after the practice skyrocketed with the increasing popularity of platforms like AirBnB and Booking. Having obtained data from home and global rental platforms, FURS has called on everybody to report their revenue to avoid fines.

Failure to do so could cost the offenders from EUR 400 to EUR 30,000, whereas they will only pay 3% in interest on the evaded tax, FURS announced.

In Slovenia, individuals can rent out their property to tourists by registering with the AJPES agency for public legal records and FURS.

FURS's campaign, announced for the beginning of next year, will focus both on registration of lessors and meeting tax duties.

The new law will also make it easier to report on tourism activity in Slovenia. A single register of accommodation will be set up, which will for the first time comprehensively cover all business entities engaged in accommodation activity in tourism.

Accommodation facilities are:

catering establishments offering accommodation (hotels, motels, pensions, accommodation, guest houses, hotel and apartment settlements, mountain and other hostels and campsites),

guest rooms at the rooms, farms (holders of supplementary activities on the farm), offering accommodation and marinas to guests.

 

Who has to register accommodation?

hotels, rooms,holders of supplementary activities on the farm and marin operators offering guests accommodation in an accommodation facility.

The proposal for the registration of an accommodation is provided by the accommodation operator or his legal representative, if he is registered in the business register, or by an authorized person, who is the provider of the accommodation activity his authorized representative is authorized to forward the proposal (hereinafter: the applicant).

 

On the basis of a complete proposal, AJPES shall record the accommodation establishment in the register and identify a unique identification number. A notice on the registration of the accommodation establishment in the register is issued to the proposer personally in the AJPES branch office or sent to the e-mail address indicated in the proposal for registering the accommodation establishment in the register.
